dead remote

my mx950 works only in the charging cradle. is this a dead battery or malfunction of the remote? Also, if it is a bettery, can you tell me if it is replaceable and how much?...

The new battery us fully charged but none of the buttons work. Pushing a button gets no response. What do I do?...
