how do i restore my dell i cant get online at all this thing wont do anything is like its locked up...

Dell Latitude D400 Keyboard Problem

My son has a Dell Latitude D400 - internal battery has had to be removed and only now running off the battery pack Come to use the laptop today and keyboard is all over the place - all letters and numbers ok in lower case and when 'caps lock' is on but if press 'shift' key the up arrow - it brings up all sorts of weird and wonderful combinations and none of the symbols above the numbers will work - any ideas on a fix ??...

I'm getting the error message on the WiFi set up. Instructing me to go to Microsoft.knowledgebase.com and review article 87122 about incompatible software for WiFi connections. Is there a WiFi set up from Dell I should be using?...
